  1. You know I’m selfishly rooting for a lower snow year. Looking decent for me right now, especially in the southern Sierra. Can all change on a dime though, I’m sure.

    • It certainly can. I remember back in 2004 (I think) it was a rather paltry year in the Sierra Nevada and then in March an epic storm rolled through and bumped up the snowpack to well-above average. Same thing happened here in 2010. It was mid-march and a light year and I told my wife “we made it!” spring feeling like it arrived and all. A week later we got 9 feet in about 4 days. It was a massive storm. All that being said, my gut sense is that this winter will be fairly average. You will more than likely be OK. You’ll probably need crampons for Forester and the like but other than that, you will be able to enjoy the Sierra in its prime. I hope
